Day 2: You’re Not as Rational As You Think
Your brain is wired for shortcuts – not sound, deliberate judgment.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
KEY INSIGHT: We want to believe we’re rational decision-makers, but we rely on mental shortcuts and emotional cues more than we realize. The goal isn’t perfect rationality – it’s awareness of how our minds deceive us so we can catch ourselves in the act.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Think back to a decision you made with total confidence that later proved flawed. What influenced you that you didn’t see at the time? Were you relying on instinct, ego, or false assumptions?
TODAY’S EXERCISE: Write your gut reaction to your important decision, then analyze whether it’s System 1 or System 2 thinking. The first step to better decisions isn’t becoming more rational – it’s becoming aware of how irrational you already are.
